Too bad.

First, Mayhem's finished doll. I think she came out cute. I will say that yarn hair of that type was very hard to work with. :p Mohair is much easier for some reason.

Now for Bedlam's doll properly attired in his boy clothes. I am even at the point where I am making clothes for them. Here is an update on my progress in pictures....

This doll is going to the boy of a friend. :) He is actually a boy doll but since he was handy at the time, he gets to model the dress that is going on the doll for her girl. Lucky little drag doll.

As you can see, he is totally finished. I will be making his clothing sometime in the next few days and he will no longer get to wear that fabulous floral dress.

Next up is the doll I made for my oldest daughter. She has no clue and is going to be so surprised when she opens her. This is the dress I made for this doll so all is how it should be for once. ;) It was my first time doing long hair and it was such a pleasant experience. It only took a fraction of the time a shorter wig takes. Notice it is a bit crooked... I will get better.

Now for the half-done doll of my youngest. She is huge into "babies" so this will go over big. I plan on putting chestnut hair on her and a dress in green with pink pantaloons. There is a fourth doll in the works but so far she is just a disembodied head.

I'm sorry my updates have been so infrequent. We move in a couple weeks which means I am about to lose the photos on this blog and I don't know when I will be able to replace them. I hope to update more regularly when the move is over and things settle down back into normalcy for us.

Also, on a side note... today I enter the second trimester of pregnancy! :D So far so good. We are looking forward to our newest arrival in June.

Ode to a Rotary Cutter

Sharp wheel of cutting
Shining, glinting, cuts like butter
I love you, sweet blade

My fabric you sheer
Lighting fast with no mistake
My pieces are done

Erica, Craft Ho
didn't say you were so sweet
Shame, shame, shame on her.

Doll update!

I have been working on two dolls like a fiend. :D I am almost totally done with the first one and just need to finish sewing on his hair. While I will admit that finishing what amounts to the skulls of two out of four dolls isn't huge, it is a beginning. Only working on them at night and when Taryn is in school is going slow me down a bit. I managed to complete them in two hours even with a couple calls from my mom. Some previous dollmaking experience is coming in handy and making it go quicker, I think.

Now I need to get my sewing machine from my Mother in law's house where my husband stashed it after I told him not to. I went to Target and Lowes and bought slipcovers for the sofa in red, a gorgeous red rug with black cherry tree relief, some accessories and a pack of four beautiful lamps. We finished painting the yellow and my gorgeous ragged terracotta is now a lovely shade of neutral sunshine.

There are no words for my exhaustion though. I took a nap and slept so hard, I woke up to my teeth hurting. I hate that. My parents were a huge help.

Speaking of parents, my dad had a heart catheter a couple weeks ago. They did an angio and placed a stent, removing a massive blockage that had made him a ticking time bomb. If he had had a heart attack, he would have died pretty much instantly. He is better now but still has to take it easy for a while. He can do normal activities as long as he stops when tired and doesn't lift anything heavy.

Hallmark has nothing on Taryn. She made my dad a card that said "I am worried you are going to have a heart attack". What can I say? She is a comfort and has the right words for any situation. LOL

So much to do...

We need to finish painting the Great Room, the rooms need picking up, the laundry needs to be done and the kitchen cleaned. My parents are also coming for the weekend.... but I just don't feel like it.

I am so sad. All I can do is cry. I cry for Brit, Amy, Erica, Christy, Tammy and most of all, for myself. I can be selfish like that sometimes. There are so many others... just too many to list. The pain of losing your little one just never goes away and never heals. The wounds reopen in a flash and the tears just don't stop.

In the end though, I can't help but be positive. Scarlett O'Hara had it right when she said "Tommorrow is another day!". I live for the days where my soul is lighter and the darkness isn't so close. The days where I almost feel "normal" and not like I am freakish in my grief.

So... Come on tommorrow! I'm waiting for you. I could use the break.

I weep...

for my kitchen is primer gray.

We are painting over my lovely terracotta color in the great room and must use a primer to help cover it. The cool weather is rocking hard. I love it. I even broke out the fleece booties and my new shawl today. :D I am warm and loving the weather.

Tips when tassling aformentioned shawl:

When using a fuzzy yarn, cut the tassels to half what you think they should be. Serious. My first tassel was so long and fluffy, it looked like a poodle's tail. It was massive. I tried again cutting my wraps and length in half and they came out perfect. My shawl is tasseled and small children are not scared by it.

I'm about to restart Cozy. We have been busy with a serious cleaning and decluttering of the house. The Craft Wench is on a roll. All I need to complete on the main body is to stitch the feet and to sew the body on to the head/arm piece. Both require blind stitches but I am afraid with my sewing talents, these will be neon, flashing stitches. I'll do the best I can to make them unobtrusive but I am not holding out much hope.

After the doll is complete sewn, I will be making the wig. At first glance, it was very intimidating and I had a brief cold sweat. After reading through the instructions a couple times, I think I can do this! It may not be perfect when done but I know it will be a good first doll.

I also got in my silk/wool yarn and have started Cozy from fall's issue of Knitty. It's my first lace project and I have to say that it is going well. I am about 5 inches in and it looks so beautiful and also so warm and sweet. I'm going to enjoy wearing it.

Scott got a really good job offer and we are moving back to my hometown, Knoxville, in a couple months. We are busy getting our house ready to put on the market. We are hoping it sells soon so we can find a house in Knoxville that suits us and not live with my parents too long if at all. Wish us luck!

I Got My Simmies!!! I Got My Simmies!!!

I picked up my presell of Sims 2 yesterday! W00t!. The clerk at Gamestop was uber-cool... she loved my Aqua Teen Hunger Force patches on my diaper bag.

This game was worth the wait! The customizable furniture.. the realistic looking sims.. the sims awareness of their eviroment.. everything is just so cool. They really upped the level of gameplay though. It's much harder to manage the Sims needs in conjuction with the new aspirations/fears facet. It's really making me work to figure out the tricks to keep them balanced.

My first family I had two married sims (they recognize family relationships! Yay!) and she got pregnant. Between morning sickness the first day and a rapidly bottoming out hunger bar the third, I just could not keep her fed. :p She nearly starved. And then the baby came... I ended up exiting out of the game because her levels were all red and she just kept passing out only to wake to take care of the baby. It was a disaster! I am now on one of the families that came with the game to try to learn to manage the Sims better.

My fun level is in the green! :D

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://wahooni.blogspot.com/2004/09/i-got-my-simmies-i-got-my-simmies.html' title='I Got My Simmies!!! I'm definetly knitting Cozie from the new fall Knitty with a couple skeins of it and that should leave me 6-5 skeins to dye and knit other things out of it. I'm picking up the book "Folk Shawls" and I am sure some of this yarn will find it's way into one of those patterns. ;) Allyson has agreed to dye some of it for me and I am busy considering color options. Green/gold is appealling to me... Maybe a mixture of deep blues and wines. I'll definetely be thinking hard about it.

I'm also picking up a pattern book to make knitted stuffed toys. Taryn is dying for me to knit her a cat and this book comes highly recommended.

BTW... My Sniper Cozie is done! W00t! What feature is more freakish than any other? Is it the pink leopard print? The huge ass eyes? It may be the stick thin limbs and pouty lips. I swear it's eyes follow me around the room... of course with eyes that big, it is probably following a space shuttle in orbit around the earth with them.

Bratz is proof that the end of the world is coming and this thing is the herald of all that is evil.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://wahooni.blogspot.com/2004/09/aaaaaaahhhhhhhhh-stuff-of-nightmares.html' title='AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!! No, Need... a Nap!

The start of Kindergarten has been like Hell week complete with hazings. I expected Taryn to be tired and cranky, after all she is going to school full-time for the first time in her life. I never expected Meara to be a mess too though. Meara is like her Mommy... she enjoys not seeing the sun till it's been up a few hours. She likes nothing more than to sleep in with me and getting up 6:30 is not fitting in with her plans. Her sleep schedule down to naps is totally screwed. We are working it out and rearranging but we are in sleep deprivation mode until she decides the best placement and lengths of naps. :p

And Taryn.... Why must everything be a fight? She gets up and we fight about what she is going to wear until I am actually glad to see the back of her as I drop her off at school and then she comes home and we fight some more. She has 5 minutes of homework every night and getting her to do it has been a pain. I asked Allyson how she got Bedlam to do his homework without fuss and she bragged about her freak child who actually likes homework. I am resentful.

Taryn starts riding the bus on Monday. For some reason, I never took Scarf 101 while learning to knit. My only defense is that I do live in the south.

So, now I am making one for the Sniper Cozie project (click my blog button to find out more) because it gets way cold in the desert come the winter months. Some lucky solider is going to get my masterpiece. ;)

Since it needs to blend in with their uniform and will probably be used for plenty of things most scarves never get used for, I went for hardwearing, comfortable and washable. Hopefully it will stand up to much abuse and will still be soft. I also am keeping it simple with a seed stitch. I've also promised a hat so stay tuned for that after I am done with the scarf.

You know a guy is scraping the bottom of the loser barrel..

when he buys action figures of porn stars.

Mmmmmm... plastic porn

Now I have to go scrub my brain out with bleach.

The Poncho known as Muppet...

So Taryn wants poncho too. I also dyed it so that it won't stripe and is heavy on the pink.

Growth Spurt!!!

And I just want to say that it's about damn time.

We have had issues with Meara's size since she was 9 months old. She plummeted off the growth chart and we have been treading water ever since. I nursed her constantly and stuffed her with food every chance I got and it may be paying off. She has been eating everything in sight the past few days and not napping well. Today she has hardly eaten and took a three hour nap and when I went to put her medium Fuzzibunz diaper on her, it was getting tight on the smallest snaps!!! Maybe, just maybe, she will have gained a ton on her next weight check. I am so tired of monitering everything she eats and worrying that she will fail to gain again. Small is okay... I just don't want her to have to be subjected to tests that will more than like tell us nothing.

Also.. a shout-out to Julie for noticing my geekiness. People who have seen it before know how desperately it was needed. As much as I sit at this thing, I hate cleaning it but it had gotten so trashed, I had nowhere to put my coffee. type='text'>This may be impossible...

I have been working on the goal of living simply and clearing out things I have no use for but it is sooo hard. It just doesn't come naturally to me yet others make it look so easy.

I don't mean to gather all this stuff. I don't mean to keep it forever and ever. I'm not even all that attached to it but I just can't get it together and get it out. I am showing some improvment... my closets are the emptiest they have ever been but I still feel claustorphobic and cluttered. I am just that bad a packrat. Nothing ever migrates to elsewhere of it's own volition and I have stuff I never use just gathering dust. Meanwhile, the few things I do use, I will use till they literally have nothing left of them. I'm weird that way. :p

I've been trying to come up with reasons for why I do this but I am coming up blank. I've noticed that I tend to finish up projects on weekends. I assume it is because I watch more TV on the weekends and like to knit as I watch. Knitting habits of the weird and deranged...

So I finished the pink poncho. It is so cute it makes my ovaries hurt and is perfect except for one thing... I bound off too tightly and it won't fit over my kid's huge melon. Whoops. I'll be fixing that when I get motivated.

Meara just slays me. One second she is so adorable and sweet she gives you cavities and the next she is screaming at a decibel and frequency that shreds sanity and sends dogs in a 10 mile radius into a frenzy. I hope this shriek is a phase she quickly leaves behind. I literally cringe when she lets loose... and she lets loose often. She could easily have a second job as the XMan, Syren. A child that can melt metal with a well placed scream has limitless potential.

What the hell kind of thing is this to say???

****I like to think all in life happens for a reason. It's halfway done. I'm having Allyson dye some silk yardage in bronze, red and orange that I am going to make curtains and pillows out of. I might be able to manage a straight line on my sewing maching. ;) I can't wait to see what she does with just yards and yards of fabric. No pressure, Ally. *snork*

We also took down our bedstand completely and just put the box spring and mattress on the floor. Meara can now climb into bed with us on her own and our bed actually takes less room. It also looks fab with the mesquito net. New 300 thread count sheets were also on the agenda. We haven't had new sheets since we got married nearly 8 years ago.... we were overdue

As you can see, everything has the Snafu seal of approval. ;)

Love comes in shades of black...

I got tired of drinking seriously bad emergency coffee and bought a new, cheap coffeemaker. It will do until I can afford a nicer, better coffeemaker.

Meara scared the crap out of me about 4 this morning. Taryn had gotten up in the middle of the night and was sleeping with me when I noticed my bedroom door opening seemingly by itself. I kept hearing these strange sounds. I look down and there is Meara! Her baby moniter never picked up any sounds from her so she must have been quiet as a ghost as she got out of bed, walked out of her room, walked through a dark house and opened my bedroom door. They are toxic people who, despite my families best efforts, were not willing to make choices that would lead away from lives of drug abuse and even prostitution. Last January, one had a second child and I got news a couple days ago that the other one also had another baby boy.

These are women who are incapable of taking care of themselves, much less a baby. They both have histories of drug and alcohol abuse, even in pregnancy and one even was pimped out by her "boyfriend" and made a living as a stripper. These were choices they made themselves... we offered them alternatives. They just plain shouldn't have children.

Yet, they do. Meanwhile, I struggle with fertility issues and even had to have meds to conceive Meara and will probably need them for the next one. They easily have healthy babies despite ingesting large amounts of narcotics during pregnancy while I didn't even drink coffee and my first baby still had lethal birth defects.

I never expected life to be fair and equitable but this still really bothers me.

Yarn!!! :D

I always feel like such a knitting slacker because I never have a yarn stash. I know it is just because I am thrifty and only buy yarn if I have a purpose for it but still it is there. I want to squirrel away yarn but my goal of living more simply stops me....

But Erica and Allyson gave me yarn! I am so in love with all of it. I am still working on balling it all but thought I would show some pics of what I have done so far. :D

First, Erica sent me 100g of a barbie pink cotton and 100g of deep periwinkle cotton/alpaca mix.

They are the same weight/gauge and I think they will make a stunning poncho for Meara. She is only 18 pds at 18 months so 200g of yarn should be plenty for her size.

Now for Allyson's yarn. She handdyed them herself but since she doesn't know how to knit she sent them my way. She got her fun out of them. LOL This is three of the six skeins she sent. I still need to ball the rest.

The purple is for a soaker for Meara, the periwinkle is for a soaker for Mayhem and the deep wine, along with a matching skein yet to be wound, is going to be a surprise for Allyson. Shhhh... don't tell. ;)

As it stands, I am not happy with Comcast right now. I didn't get any email at all for over a day and kept getting a server error. I call their tech support to see why and the second she finds out that I am using Opera in stead of OE and IE, she shuts me down. Will not help me further. Meanwhile, I know it's not my Opera that is footed up... it's Comcast's server! I know what a server error is as I am not stupid. So, while my email is now back up, Comcast has apparently eaten nearly two days of email. Nevermind that I was expecting something important. If they weren't the only ones offering cable modem in this area, I would so switch.

Pass the Cheese Please...

What is with me? Why do I have a new and enduring love for Pepper Jack cheese? Suddenly, I can't get enough of it. Thank god it's allowed on my eating plan. I'd have to waste away to nothing in want of it otherwise. I swear I ate half a block of it tonight.

Between reading, watching TV and eating cheese, I have done zero knitting. At all. I don't feel bad per se about it but there is a lingering sense of free floating guilt. Maybe I was Catholic in another life. It made the best cup of coffee you would ever have.

Now pardon me as I turn into a ravening caffiene-deprived beast before your very eyes.

Booga!

Just a progress report on my second Booga Bag. :D I'm making this one for Erica in purple and green. Thy name is Coffee

I am an addict. Thank god my drug of choice is cheap because I would hate to whore myself on the street for a cup of Kenya AA.... it would have to be pure Kona at the very least to get in my pants.

Yet I am unable to keep up with my coffee cup. I suspect Coffee Cup #1 may be in the dishwasher, victim to my MM routine. Possible but more likely I will find it cold and forlorn in an odd corner of the house. Coffee Cup #2, who strikes an odd resemblance to #1, is currently sitting on my desk... filled with fresh hot coffee. I am sorry #1. Sorry that I have lost you. Sorry that you are forsaken. Most of all, I am sorry you were so easy to replace. That has to hurt.

I am on a reading binge. I have slowly been working my way through Laurell K. Hamilton's Anita Blake books as I have gotten my hands on them but my mom goofed and gave me the rest of the series. The result is that I have read three books in less than a week. My house looks like crap. My children look at my longingly. My husband doesn't bother to speak to me because I am reading. I am resisting the pull of the fourth book but it hard. Must... not... open!!!!

All I need for the perfect day is a cup of coffee and a book about vampires and werewolves. They are gorgeous! Allyson outdid herself and has really grown as an artist. Everything is far more beautiful than pictured. There is a richness and variation of color that can't be captured on camera.

First, the baby silks for Taryn and Meara...

She also made a set of beautiful scarves for my mother. It's noisy and busy and I miss having my things around me.

My dad bought me an early B-day present... a new video card! It's a GeForceFX 5200 and is going to kick some serious gaming booty when I get it installed. I am geeked to the max over it. Now I will be able to play Sims 2 when it comes out without my computer exploding.

Tonight is Meara's last night in her crib. We have the toddler bed and will set it up tomorrow. My baby is growing up and transfering her to a big girl bed just reinforces that. Mike was the same age as me, 29. I sat next to him in homeroom and any other classes we shared for four years because we had the same last name. I knew his parents growing up. I am both broken hearted and astounded.

We are also approaching the first anniversary of my cousin Brandon's death. He was in a car accident. He was 26 at the time. He had a troubled history of drug use and even though he was clean at the time, it had affected all his relationships. His parents have spent the last year trying to reconcile their guilts while mourning his loss.

So today I remember those who left us too young and pray for their families. The result was not only a few hours of entertainment but a nearly completed soaker too. :D Two hours would pass, my fingers would be sore and several inches would be done. ;)

First soaker pics then my Atlantis review...

Hadley's first soaker

Matching soakers together

Now for Atlantis... I really liked it. :D I am a big fan of Stargate SG-1 and this spin-off did not disappoint. They didn't spend loads and loads of time on exposition so I was never bored and they jumped right into some serious action. That bad guys are uber-scary and none of the good guys pissed me off... that is saying something. ;) Dr. Weir has a pinched face but I guess you can't help what you were born with. Poor lady. The only character that crossed over from SG-1 was Dr. McKay. They toned down some of that hilarious sarcasm he displayed in the past but I guess he can't be a jackass to the only people he will be living with for who knows how long. They would probably kill him otherwise. Teyla seems like a little bit of a Teal'c rip-off so they need some serious work there. Hopefully they will get out of that rut with some character building.

I am really interested in seeing how they handle Atlantis. Since they are cut off from Earth with no way to get home and have limited supplies, they are going to have to make the transition from expedition team to self-supporting colony down the line. Less military and more "community working for a common goal". It will be exciting to see how they do that.

I give it a 4 out of 5. :)

How far I have fallen...

My MIL gave Taryn a huge container of Kool-aid. They are going to be gorgeous. I'll post more pics when they are done.

We also went to an Open House today for a house that is hundred years old. Oh man, am I in love! It has the oddest floor plan and at least two entrances to every room... the bathrooms are in odd locations but it was beautiful. It had original woodwork, including an elaborate staircase, floor to ceiling windows, plaster walls, hardwood floors and four fireplaces! I will be dreaming of it for a while to come.

Hangin' out at Walmart

I make no secret of my hatred for Walmart. I semi-boycott them which means that if I can get it somewhere else, even if I have to pay loads more, I will. But tonite I was desperate... desperate to get out before I lost my everlovin' mind!!! Of course, the kids are in bed... of course everything else is closed so I hang out at Walmart. Yeah, I am classy. ;) I actually bought a tye dye kit so I can dye some of Meara's prefolds! I'm pretty psyched about that and will post pics when I am done with them. I also went into the girl's aka "Tramps in Training" section and found a dress for Taryn that will actually cover her body decently! I know, I was shocked too.

On a weird note, Meara found and ate a seriously strong mint today and loved it. She cried when I wouldn't give her another. What 17 month old likes Altoids? At least her breath was fresh.
